19/12/2024
On Tuesday, 17th December, the Salmon community gathered for an evening of celebration.
The Salmon Celebration brought together staff, parents, young people, and the local community to celebrate the achievements of our young people and recognise the invaluable support of our volunteers.
The event was made even more special by the attendance of two distinguished guests: Councillor Rachel Bentley and The Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Naima Ali.
Three of our talented young people delivered inspiring vocal performances that captivated the audience. Young people were recognised for their accomplishments in sports, art, and trampolining, with certificates presented to celebrate their hard work. A heartfelt thanks was extended to our supporters and adult volunteers who have been vital to Salmon’s work throughout the year. A special tribute was paid to Ems for her years of dedication, including driving the minibus and leading arts and crafts workshops. Her contributions have left an enduring legacy at Salmon.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Member of the Year 2024 Award, bestowed by The Mayor of Southwark to the exceptional Aakira .
Miranda, Head of Youth work commented “Aakira started volunteering with Salmon just over 3 years ago it was clear that she had an amazing talent for working with children, a great heart for serving others and a maturity beyond her years. She has volunteered consistently in our 6-11’s club every Thursday and also our holiday scheme for this age group, enabling us to provide a fun, safe space for many children. Aakira is especially gifted at working with those who have additional needs and this is a skill we value greatly in our team. She has now moved on to work with our 11-14’s and made a good transition into this club. As well as volunteering she has attended trips such our Tall Ship’s residential and exchange trip to Germany and is always a great positive influence on her peers and everyone around her. Aakira is an great asset to Salmon as an organisation and her community as a whole, we look forward to seeing what her future holds
Aakira’s dedication, kindness, and leadership have made her an indispensable part of the Salmon community. Her recognition as Member of the Year 2024 reflects her hard work and the bright future that lies ahead.
Thank you to everyone who made this celebration possible, and congratulations to Aakira on her well-deserved recognition!
