We want to make the Salmon Youth Centre a place where all young people can come and enjoy themselves – even if they have a disability that they think might make this difficult.
Clubs
We have two specific youth clubs for disabled young people who are aged 12-18 (Mixables), or 19-25 (Mixters). In these clubs, we do a range of activities (e.g. sport, games, drama, music, computers) and projects (e.g. making a DVD and volunteering at the Bermondsey Carnival).
As well as the clubs specifically for disabled young people, our whole programme of activities are available to you (see programme). Many of our staff have experience of working with disabled young people and we can arrange extra support to access sessions if you need it.
Residentials and trips
We go on trips to places like Thorpe Park and 10 pin bowling and several residential holidays which are specifically for disabled young people.
Mentoring
Connect 2 is a scheme which pairs up disabled young people with trained volunteers who take them out into the local community. As well as having fun and getting out and about, it is hoped that this scheme will help improve young people’s confidence and independence skills.
If you have any questions regarding our work with disabled young people please get in touch.
